Quradent acts as a bactericidal, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, local anesthetic, flavoring, and cooling agent.

Compositions;

Chlorhexidine gluconate, Eucalyptol, thyme ext,  menthol crystals, clove oil, methylparaben, propylparaben, and Glycerin.

Indications; for disinfection of dental prosthesis.

  • Quradent is used for treatment and prevention.
  • Quradent is used for Gingivitis prevention.
  • Quradent has a greater reduction in salivary bacterial counts (total salivary aerobes and anaerobes)( bactericidal), which still present up to the 7-h post-rinsing period, so it can be used as anti-plaque.
  • Quradent is used for periodontitis prevention.
  • Quradent is active against dental infections.
  • Quradent is used for the prevention of caries.
  • Quradent is an effective mouthwash for reducing plaque and gingivitis aphthous ulcers.
  • Quradent has potential value in the prophylaxis of oral candidiasis in the myelosuppressed patient and in HIV – infected children.
  • Quradent is used twice daily as an aid in the disinfection of surgical sites, to improve wound healing, for the short term.
  • Quradent is used for short-term treatment of halitosis.
  • Quradent is used for relieving dental pain, toothache, sore gums and Mouth ulcers.
  • Quradent is used for relieving toothache that has been caused by a dental cavity.
  •  Quradent has a local anesthetic effect, temporarily numbs and relieves pain from a dry socket, as well as used in a number of temporary restorative materials.

Method of administration;
Adults and children 12 years of age and older – vigorously swish 20 mL (2/3 FL OZ or 4 teaspoonfuls) between teeth for 30 seconds then spit out; do not swallow.
Children under 12 years of age – consult a dentist or doctor.
This rinse is not intended to replace brushing or flossing Cautions ;

As Chlorhexidine may interact with fluoride and sodium lauryl sulfate (a detergent found in toothpaste), it should be used after rinsing with water or 0.5–2 hours after using toothpaste.
The efficacy is reduced in the presence of organic materials such as serum, blood, and pus. Soaps and other anionic compounds also neutralize their activity.
It can be used with caution in patients with bleeding disorders.
Pregnancy, lactation (use only if absolutely necessary).

Adverse effects ;

These include tooth and restoration staining, soft tissue staining, increased calculus deposition,

Unpleasant taste, taste alteration, burning sensation, desquamation, and mucosal irritation.

Chlorhexidine may also potentiate oral discomfort in patients with chemotherapy-induced mucositis, xerostomia, or ulcerative oral mucosal conditions.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to Chlorhexidine and contact with the middle ear is unacceptable.

 

Storage: store in 15 – 25oC temperature, dark place, away from children.

Shelf life: 3 years.
